Cake maker Christine Jensen on creating memories that stick

The cakes that Christine Jensen of Peboryon makes have got to be seen to be believed. Each one is a work of art. It comes as no surprise that her creations have won multiple awards and led to an appearance on Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers.

What is the big idea you will be sharing at TEDxTruro?

People are worth celebrating memorably!

How is your idea going to change the way we look at the world?

I hope that what I share will remind us all to take stock of our people, and be ridiculously grateful. And then to go and embody that gratitude in a joyfully memorable act.

TEDxTruro’s theme this year is ‘Wonder’ – what inspires wonder in your life?

ANYTHING that reminds me the world is a so much bigger and more complicated than I give it credit for. Travel, beauty, not knowing, being present, giving thanks. Everything and anything that doesn’t have ‘me’ in the centre, gives room for wonder!

What is your favourite TED or TEDx talk?

There are a lot! The most memorable ones for me have been: Shonda Rhimes ‘My year of saying Yes to everything’ … compelling storytelling with a fascinating core. Then there’s a talk by Simon Sinek that I’ve often gone back to, ‘Why good leaders make you feel safe’, with great illustrations that combats the rule of self for real connection and environmental change.

Who else are you excited to see at TEDxTruro 2018?

All the talks sound great for very different reasons, it’s going to be a brilliant day! Saying that, due to the fact I work with connecting people in an often very visual way, I’m really looking forward to hearing the talks by both Hugh Hastings and Lucy Edge.

TEDxTruro 2018 takes place on 26 October at Truro & Penwith College. Exploring the theme ‘wonder’ our speakers will cover diverse topics including cyber security, antiobotics, psychedelics and photography. Tickets are available here and are £50 each plus an admin fee of £3.
